SNAP-Plus Database Tools Download, March 31, 2005

New table descriptions 10/5/07 (see below)

This is a preliminary site, and is subject to change at any time.

This download is provided only as a courtesy to SnapPlus users. We cannot provide technical or other support for these materials at this time.

Some advanced users might want to do queries on Snap-Plus data from within the Microsoft Access desktop database system. For example, some people might use Access to filter the Snap-Plus data so that it can be used with ArcGIS. Others might want want to read the SnapPlus tables directly for creating custom reports in a word processor or spreadsheet.

Snap-Plus data is stored using the FlashFiler database. MS Access cannot read these tables directly, so a translation utility called ODBC is required. In addition, FlashFiler tables require a FlashFiler server to be running in the background in order to read the data contained in the tables. The following installation download contains the tools required for connecting MS Access and the SnapPlus tables, along with instructions for setting up and configuring the connection.

A database schema is not currently available, however table definitions are included in the "SnapPlusTableDefs" directory of your SnapPlusDBTools installation. Tables are generally linked either on:
clientID --> farmID --> fieldID --> seasonYear
or clientID --> farmID --> soilTestID
or clientID --> farmID --> planYear
A more detailed schema will be made available in the future.

The setup, configuration and usage of these tools is recommended for advanced users only. You will probably need administrative privilages to do the ODBC setup. You may need help from your network administrator beyond what is described in the instructions included with the setup. In addition, note that modifying the contents of SnapPlus tables outside of SnapPlus may render that data unreadable by SnapPlus. You should only work with copies of your SnapPlus datasets.

Click on the link below and select a directory to use as the download destination. If the download does not work, try right clicking the link and selecting "save link as" from the popup menu.

SnapPlusDBToolsSetup.05.03.31.exe 3 mB

Once you have the setup program downloaded, run it and follow the directions in the setup wizard.
You can uninstall this program using the "Add/Remove programs" utility in the Windows Control Panel. Select the SnapPlusDBTools entry and then click "change/remove".

NOTE (10/5/2007): Table structures in the SnapPlus database have changed since the DBTools were last released and the table schemas included in the installed product are out of date. A new set of table schemas is available through the link below to replace the ones previously distributed:
